Learning Outcomes:


After the completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and explain the fundamental concepts of management, including its evolution, roles of managers, and the impact of environmental factors on organizations in a global context.
  2. Comprehend the nature and purpose of planning in management, understand different types of plans and strategies, and apply rational decision-making processes.
  3. Describe the principles of organizing within an organization, including organizational structure, delegation, staffing, recruitment, and performance appraisal processes.
  4. Analyze and apply theories and styles of leadership and motivation, understand barriers to effective communication, and manage cultural diversity in organizations.
  5. Understand the process of controlling in management, including different types of control techniques, productivity management, and various control mechanisms like cost, quality, and maintenance control.

Unit I: Overview of Management Definition of Management, Role of Managers, Evolution of Management Thought, Organization and Environmental Factors, Trends and Challenges in Global Management Scenario.

Unit II: Planning Nature and Purpose of Planning, Planning Process, Types of Plans, Objectives, Managing by Objective (MBO), Strategies, Types of Strategies, Policies, Decision Making, Types of Decision, Decision Making Process, Rational Decision Making.

Unit III: Organizing Nature and Purpose of Organizing, Organization Structure, Formal and Informal Groups, Line and Staff Authority, Departmentation, Span of Control, Centralization and Decentralization, Delegation of Authority, Staffing, Selection and Recruitment, Orientation, Career Development, Career Stages, Training, Performance Appraisal.

Unit IV: Directing Creativity and Innovation, Motivation and Satisfaction, Motivation Theories, Leadership Styles, Leadership Theories, Communication, Barriers to Effective Communication, Organization Culture, Elements and Types of Culture, Managing Cultural Diversity.

Unit V: ControllingProcess of Controlling, Types of Control, Budgetary and Non-Budgetary Control Techniques, Managing Productivity, Cost Control, Purchase Control, Maintenance Control, Quality Control, Planning Operations.
